Hello,
Sorry it's been so long since I last wrote a blog, but a lot has happened!
Me and Mum went up to London for a parents meeting with people from Project Trust, which was very interesting and answered some of our questions.
I need to thank Westover, who my Dad works for, and especially someone called Suzy, who has helped a huge amount with the static cycling event at Castlepoint. She has had printed two massive posters and a banner for the event, which I'm sure will look great on the day, and would've cost a lot of money, so thanks a lot Suzy!
With the cycling and running, progress was rather slow in January and into February because of the great British weather, but we're still on track to hit 5265 miles by the end of May. Currently we've done 3670, so only 1595 to go!
I would also like to thank my school, Poole Grammar, who have given me a small contribution from the travel bursary to go to Project Trust.
Last Friday, I held a quiz night, as one of my main fundraising events for my year out. We had 11 teams of people from school, family friends and Mum's workmates. The evening went really well, and everyone seemed to enjoy it, so thanks to everyone for coming. We held a raffle (thanks to all the companies who donated for this), an auction of a Land Rover driving experience day (thanks to Westover), and a small game that another volunteer had told me about. You put a bottle of champagne at one end of the hall and throw/roll 50p coins towards it - the closest wins! This small gave on it's own raised over £50, although it was won by a 12 year old!
The host for the night, Steven, and his wife Marie were fantastic in organising and running the night, so a huge thanks must go to you two!
Overall, the quiz night raised a huge £750 - about £100 in raffle tickets, £55 from the 50p game, about £450 in ticket sales and the rest was made up from the auction and other generous donations. Thanks again to everyone who came!
This month or next, I'll find out exactly where in Honduras I'm going, so I'm very excited about that.
Just the small task of my A levels before I leave now...
Thanks for reading...
Sam
